Andrew gained his art and design degree in Cornwall, and now lives and works in London. He is keenly interested in how contextualisation influences our judgement of art, and his food paintings explore this in their depiction of foods often associated with sensual stimulation; cake, chips, pasties, chocolate...and how this manifests as an aesthetic response. With titles often referring to love, desire and mortality, these still life works make each piece a metaphor for temptation and desire with discreet undertones of the erotic and sensual. Painting in oil on paper, canvas, or wood panel, Andrew’s work is stylistically informed by the development of early figurative painting, referencing to Mannerism and his interest in formalism, visual culture and contemporary painting.
